SARS-CoV-2

"In the world of nutrition and health [SARS-CoV-2 research], scientists are not free to pursue their research wherever it leads.  Coming to the 'wrong' conclusions, even through first-rate science, can damage your career.  Trying to disseminate these 'wrong' conclusions to the public, for the sake of public health, can destroy your career." - Dr. T. Colin Campbell PhD., The China Study, p.256

I think today it would be acceptable to replace the phrase 'nutrition and health' with 'SARS-CoV-2 research'.  The 'wrong' here is today categorized as misinformation, fake news, etc. and is therefore justifiably censored by the gatekeepers of 'truth'.  Wow.

Whole-genome Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2: Using Phylogeny and Structural Modeling to Contextualize Local Viral Evolution
The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has created a global pandemic resulting in over 1 million deaths worldwide. In the Department of Defense (DoD), over 129,000 personnel (civilians, dependents, and active duty) ...

phylogeny :

  1. The evolutionary development and history of a species or trait of a species or of a higher taxonomic grouping of organisms.
  2. A model or diagram delineating such an evolutionary history.
  3. A similar model or diagram delineating the development of a cultural feature.

"In December 2019, whole-genome shotgun sequencing of respiratory tract samples revealed that a novel RNA virus from the genus Betacoronavirus was the causal agent of pneumonia in patients from Wuhan, China."

Whole Genome Shotgun Sequencing
Whole genome shotgun sequencing vs. next-generation whole genome sequencing - do you know which one will give you the best value? Learn about sequencing here.

"In shotgun sequencing, the DNA that is being analyzed is randomly broken up into many smaller pieces, which are then sequenced separately from one another using the chain termination method. Several rounds of shotgun sequencing are performed on the same DNA sample in order to obtain multiple short reads that cover the entirety of the target genome.

Once this is done, sequence reads are analyzed using bioinformatics programs that look for portions of the genome sequence that match identically — these fragments are called contigs. These repetitive sequences are used to overlap the ends of numerous reads and sequence assembly software is used to reassemble the DNA fragments in the correct order."

"Shotgun sequencing has certain disadvantages.2 It requires significant software and computing resources, and it’s prone to ambiguities and sequencing errors — especially when it’s used to sequence complex genomes without a reference sequence. In complex genomes, small fragments of DNA can contain repetitive sequences that contain base pairs and nucleotides in the same order as other fragments, thus increasing the risk of genome assembly errors."

What caused/motivated the geneticists in Dec. 2019 to use whole-genome shotgun sequencing of respiratory tract samples in relatively few pneumonia cases.  Isn't pneumonia rather common?  Is it standard practice to test samples in this way?

"Before the discovery of SARS-CoV-2, only six coronaviruses were known to cause human disease—four that cause the common cold (HCoV-OC43, HCoV-HKU1, HCoV-NL63, and HCoV-229E) and two other strains of zoonotic origin, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome virus (MERS-CoV)."

The genetic sequence, origin, and diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a new infectious disease that first emerged in Hubei province, China, in December 2019, which was found to be associated with a large seafood ...

The mechanisms of action of Ivermectin against SARS-CoV-2: An evidence-based clinical review article
Considering the urgency of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, detection of various new mutant strains and future potential re-emergence of novel coronaviruses, repurposing of approved drugs such as Ivermectin could be worthy of attention. This evidence-based ...

"The fact that the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been thought to have originated from wildlife and may have “jumped” into humans, not only highlights future risks from animal-borne diseases but also provides an important clue to its resolution. In such a scenario, where this “jump” has been made from animal to human, it seems only logical to review a drug that has worked efficiently against a disease-causing agent and is available in a form that is safe for human consumption since the early 1980's."

This is a very misleading statement on the surface.  The use of the word fact at the beginning of the Paragraph (thought), leads one to believe that what is coming next in the thought is FACT, one of which suggests that animal-to-human viral "jumps" do occur and are scientific fact.  The word 'fact' here is oddly referring to the "has been thought", term.

Just for humor sake: "The fact that I have thought that most people are morons leads me to suspect that the educational system may be flawed and provides a clue to its resolution - more money for better education."

"There are, in effect, two things: to know and to believe one knows. To know is science. To think one knows is ignorance." — Hippocrates

What is Science? – Richard Feynman

"I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts."

"I think we live in an unscientific age in which almost all the buffeting of communications and television–words, books, and so on–are unscientific. As a result, there is a considerable amount of intellectual tyranny in the name of science."
